2013 TOLL INCREASE PROTEST
Tunnels tolls went up on Monday 1st April - Easter Monday. (the increase took effect from midnight on the Sunday).
We held a protest in the morning between 10.00 and 12.00 AM on the Oakdale Road bridge near the toll booths at the Tunnel entrance in Wallasey.

Most of the people who were driving through the Tunnels showed their support for the protest by waving or honking horns, but the number taking part on the bridge was again disappointing - only twenty people were there for at least part of the protest, including Esther McVey, the MP for Wirral West for whose support we are again grateful.
After the protest we sent out a press relaese which included this fram Dave Loudon, the chairman of the MTUA, who said that the timing of this latest increase at Easter "highlights the fact that this is almost the only area in Britain where people have to pay a toll tax in order to visit families and friends who just happen to live on the other side of the river."
"This toll and the planned tolls for crossing the river at Runcorn divide the region. It should be obvious to almost everyone that while this toll increase will boost the profits for Merseytravel it will also be a blow to the economy and employment."
Wirral Globe 2 April 2013 - "Campaigners protest tunnel tolls hike".
